Wood Collection FAQs

Is the bed sturdy?

Yes it is. Our loft beds are designed with angled leg braces that offer an added rigidity. This is one of our distinguishing features. The legs are also laminated (made up of 2 or more pieces of wood glued together) which also adds stiffness. You must however snug tight ALL (do not over tighten!) of the bolts and screws for the bed to be rigid. Any loose fasteners will compromise the stability. We recommend checking all the bolts for tightness 1 or 2 times throughout the year to maintain the rigidity.

What are the weight limits of the beds?

All of our loft beds are very sturdy. They are designed to withhold at least 1000 pounds of evenly distributed weight not in motion.

How hard is it to put together?

Assembly does require some mechanical aptitude. It is a project for which you should allot between 1.5-2 hours. Most of the assembly requires only 1 person, but 2 people are required for some of the assembly steps. Following the directions is highly recommended; this will ultimately save you time!

Does it come with instructions? Are the instructions hard to follow?

Detailed instructions are included with all of the Wood Collection products. The loft bed instructions have 17 steps with easy to follow 3-D pictures.

What tools are required?

You will need a large Philips head screwdriver with a number 3 tip or a screw gun, a number 2 Philips head screwdriver and flathead screwdriver. You may need a hammer to tap in the wood dowels.

Is the wood finished?

We offer 3 different finish options: unfinished, clear, and cherry (see product pages for more details). Our unfinished models are furniture grade, smooth and ready to be stained, polyed or both. You can also leave it unfinished, which many people do. The wood is processed through a molder, which surfaces all four sides and eases all four edges, so it is smooth to the touch.

Does the height adjust?

Yes. The TN105’s adjust to 2 height settings (see the product 3D views with dimensions on the Loft Bed product page). The higher setting is approximately 5’ from the floor to the slats, and the 2nd setting is 6” lower. (Add 12” to these heights for the high models.) The standard height bed is designed to optimize space in a room with a standard 8’ ceiling. You should determine the height setting of the bed before starting the assembly; otherwise you will have to completely disassemble it in order to adjust the height.

Does the twin come in a high model?

Yes, as a special request. We can provide the TN105T and TN105TX in a high model, with 1-foot higher legs and ladder. Because of the “tipsy-ness” of this model, we require that the customer fasten this bed to the wall in 2 locations with well-secured screws. The cost is an additional $60. Contact us for information on how to order. (Please note that we only offer these models unfinished.)

How much room will there be between the mattress and the ceiling?

We recommend a 7” thick mattress. One way to quickly see how much headroom you will have is to sit on your current low bed (assuming you will use this mattress in your new loft bed) and measure from the bottom of your mattress to the top of your head. Add this number to the standard 5’ loft bed height setting and see how it compares to your ceiling height. You may have to lower the loft bed by choosing the 6” lower height setting if more room on top is desired. If an even lower height is desired, we can also provide a cut-down set of legs and ladder sides to meet your request. The fee is $25.

What are the box sizes and weights?

The TN105 Loft Beds come in 2 boxes, rectangular tube-shaped, ranging from 50 to 90 inches long and weighing between 60 to 90 lbs per box. Assembled, the loft beds weigh between 150 and 170 lbs depending on the size.

Do you take custom requests?

The only requests we generally take are for custom heights. We can provide a cut-down set of legs and ladder sides to meet your request. The fee is $25.

Can I get extra parts?

Yes. Extra parts are available. The warranty period is 6 months. Extra parts or parts beyond the warranty period are at cost. Please call if you would like to arrange a parts order.

Can you send me a catalog of your products?

Yes, just click on the “Download Wood Collection Brochure” link on the product detail pages for a brochure. We also have a similar link on the Residence Collection product pages.

I moved and lost my instructions; can you send me a new set?

Yes. Contact us and we can email them to you. The format will be a multi page .tif file scan attached to the email. It can be opened by the default Windows or Mac image-viewing program on your computer.

I ordered a Loft Bed but now I want to convert it into a bunk, is that possible?

Yes. We can sell you the lower bunk parts and the loft/bunk legs with predrilled holes for the lower bunk. Contact us for a quote.

Wood Collection Tips

Follow the instructions word for word – It will save you time! You should allot at least 2 hours for first time assembly.

Measure the area where you are placing the bed before assembly, particularly in a small room. This will help to avoid having to move the bed once it is already assembled.

Determine the height setting of the bed before starting the assembly; otherwise you will have to completely disassemble it in order to adjust the height.

Locate and measure important room features beforehand, such as windows, doors, outlets or thermostats, to avoid obstructions. (See the product 3D views with dimensions on the Product pages)

If you purchased an unfinished bed and would like to add your own finish, decide on a finish and apply it before assembly. The wood is furniture grade, milled smooth with rounded edges. It is ready to accept a finish, but many people choose to leave the wood natural and unfinished.
