Wood Collection FAQs

Is the bed sturdy?

Yes it is! Our loft beds are designed with angled leg braces that offer an added rigidity. This is one of our distinguishing features. You must however tighten ALL (do not over tighten!) of the bolts and screws for the bed to be rigid. Any loose fasteners will compromise the stability. We recommend checking all the bolts for tightness 1 or 2 times throughout the year to maintain the rigidity.

What are the weight limits of the beds?

All of our loft beds are very sturdy. They are designed to withhold at least 1000 pounds of evenly distributed weight not in motion.

How hard is it to put together?

Assembly does require some mechanical aptitude. It is a project for which you should allot at least 2 hours. Much of the assembly requires only 1 person, but 2 people are required for some of the assembly steps. Following the directions is highly recommended; this will ultimately save you time!

Does it come with instructions? Are the instructions hard to follow?

Detailed instructions are included with all of the Wood Collection products. The loft bed instructions have 12 steps with easy to follow 3-D pictures.

What tools are required?

You will need a large Philips head screwdriver with a number 3 tip or a screw gun, a number 2 Philips head screwdriver and flathead screwdriver. You may need a hammer to tap in the wood dowels.

Is the wood finished?

The wood is not finished but the brace panels are. The wood is unfinished southern tulip poplar, furniture grade smooth that is ready to accept a finish, or it can remain unfinished. The brace panels are made of a ¼ melamine finished 2 sides. See products page for color choices.

Does the height adjust?

Yes. The TN109’s adjust to 2 height settings (see the product 3D views with dimensions on the Loft Bed product page). The higher setting is approximately 5’ from the floor to the slats, and the 2nd setting is 4” lower. The height is designed to optimize space in a room with a standard 8’ ceiling. The height adjustment is conveniently achieved by adding or removing the leg extensions that fasten to the bottoms of the legs.

Does the loft bed come in a higher model?

No. The height is are maximum for this design. The braces need to go almost to the floor to achieve ample rigidity. TimberNest does not offer a higher model.

How much room will there be between the mattress and the ceiling?

We recommend a 9”(maximum) thick mattress. One way to quickly see how much headroom you will have is to sit on your current low bed (assuming you will use this mattress in your new loft bed) and measure from the bottom of your mattress to the top of your head. Add this number to the standard 5’ loft bed height setting and see how it compares to your ceiling height. You may have to lower the loft bed by choosing the 4” lower height setting if more room on top is desired.

What are the box sizes and weights?

The TN109 Loft Beds come in 3 boxes. There are 2 rectangular tube-shaped (cross sections 6”x10”, 10”x10”), ranging from 54 to 78 inches long and weighing between 50 to 80 lbs per box. The third box is for the brace panels, which measures 47” x 12” x 2” and is 15 lbs. Assembled, the loft beds weigh between 130 and 165 lbs depending on the size.

Do you take custom requests?

No. We do not offer custom requests. We only offer the products as shown and listed on the products pages.

Can I get extra parts?

Yes. Extra parts are available. The warranty period is 6 months. Extra parts or parts beyond the warranty period are at cost. Please contact us or the retailer if you would like to arrange a parts order.

I moved and lost my instructions; can you send me a new set?

Yes. Contact us and we can email them to you. Let us know the MODEL number and size please.

I ordered a Loft Bed but now I want to convert it into a bunk, is that possible?

No. We do not offer bunk beds. The TN109 Loft beds do not accommodate a lower bunk. The braces that go almost to the floor interfere with the addition of a lower bunk.
